Khabarovsk territory is included into number of the administrative-territorial formations of the Russian Federation largest in the sizes, is located in the central part of the Russian Far East. Borders on all regions of Far East Federal district, and also with the Peoples Republic of China.

Administratively the edge is divided into 17 areas, the edge capital — the city of Khabarovsk, simultaneously is also capital of Far East federal district. In total in edge seven cities, 24 settlements of city type, 186 rural administrations and 431 rural settlement.

In edge lives 1427000 persons (by data on 1/1/2004 of year), including the small people of the North. Eighty and a half population percent live in edge cities. On the average on one square kilometer live 1,8 persons. Middle age of inhabitants of edge — 36,08 years.

The edge is rich with wood, mineral, fish and other natural resources. 167 kinds of plants are brought in the Red book of Khabarovsk territory and mushrooms, 127 kinds of animals. Among them there are the rare kinds brought in the International Red book.
